Questions and Answers from Matthew Burkett

Q.  Why change flies throughout the years?

A.  Different aquatic insects are hatching and different terrestrials are available.

Q.  What makes Colorado trout more highly-selective than trout elsewhere?

A.  It is not necessarily Colorado trout that are more selective. Trout anywhere that have been fished to will become selective. The more often they are fished to, the more selective they become.

Q.  Are there other factors in how trout become selective?

A.  Trout can also be very selective when given a number of food options. So those that live in drainages with lots of bugs and lots of good things to eat can become very selective and choose to eat only one thing at any given time.

Q. How often will you change the patterns and how will you know to change them?

A. When the fish are not biting.
